Multimedia Event
Step by Step
Participating in the Multimedia Event is fun and easy! Just follow these simple steps:
Step #1
Make a commitment to participate in the Multimedia Event. *REMEMBER: the Multimedia Event is only open to 4th and 5th grade students.* Complete the Multimedia Event registration form and return it to a classroom teacher by Monday, January 31st.
Step #2
Determine your film category and develop your idea. You may want to come up with several ideas before you settle on your final one. The categories are as follows: documentary/news report, comedy/drama, or public service announcement. Write your ideas for your project and spend enough time on it to make it an example of your best work. This will be called your screenplay. It is meant to be an outline of your project so the judges can see how you planned out your ideas. Don’t worry if you don’t follow your screenplay exactly when you do your filming. It is expected that your screenplay will be somewhat different from what is in your final video. You can include drawings and other plans for your video in here too.
Step #3
Ask an adult to review your project. You will need to submit a screenplay with your project, so ask them to help you double check your grammar, spelling and punctuation. This could be a parent, grandparent, teacher or other grown-up. If corrections need to be made, ask your adult helper to explain to you the reasons for the corrections. Do your very best to listen to and to understand the reasons.
(Note to Adult Helpers: Try to make the review process a learning experience for the child. Also, although it is tempting to do more, please remember this is the child's project and it needs to be his or her original work.)
Step #4
Record your project using whatever film equipment you have access to at home or at school. *Videos must be at least one minute long, but no longer than 7 minutes long.* Edit your video (add titles, music, transitions, etc.) to complete the project. Please remember your submission must be your own work and needs to be in compliance with copyright laws.
If you are using work that is not your own, it must be part of the public domain.

Step #5 – TWO PARTS!
Submit your project by turning in your written screenplay and uploading your video.
Part 1: Submit your written screenplay by writing out or printing your screenplay. Make sure your project is neat and legible and it has your name, your teacher's name and grade on it. Submit it to your classroom teacher by Tuesday, February 22. Please remember, it is okay if your screenplay does not match your video word for word. Your screenplay is your outline to show how you planned your video before making it.
Part 2: Submit your video by Tuesday, February 22. Remember: videos should be at least one minute but no longer than seven minutes long.
Step #6
The judges will take it from here. Be sure to come to the Imagination Fair on Friday, March 11 and see if you also earned a top-ribbon for your project!
