Science Event
Step By Step
Participating in the Science Event is fun and easy! Just follow these simple steps:
Step #1
Make a commitment to participate in the Science Event. Complete the Science Event registration form online or return it to a classroom teacher by Monday, January 31.
Step #2
Find an adult to help you plan, organize and safely do your project. This could be a parent, grandparent, teacher or other grown-up. (Note to Adult Helpers: Although it is tempting to do more, please remember this is the child's project and he or she should do most of the work.)
Step #3
Decide upon a project that interests you and plan your project with your adult helper. Safely do the things to complete your project and use adult help when needed.
Step #4
Neatly and accurately present your findings and/or information on the tri-fold display board that can be picked up at Sugar Creek during the evening of February 9.
Step #5 - NEW THIS YEAR: Everyone needs to make a video!
Ask your adult helper to use your school iPad to help you record a video explaining your project.
*Please be sure videos are no longer than 2 minutes.
Step #6
Bring your display board and other materials to school for set-up on Thursday, March 10. Invite family and friends to the Science Event Friday, March 11, and join us for a fun event! When the event is over, help clean-up your project and display board. Please take your science project home with you at the end of the evening event.

Ask your adult helper to use your school iPad to help you record a video explaining your project.
- You will need to complete your video presentation BEFORE THURSDAY March 10.
- Please use the camera app on your school iPad to record your video. Do not use iMovie or other video editing apps.
- Your video should be two minutes or less, telling the judge about what you did and learned.
- Use your best presentation skills (loud voice, eye contact with camera, speak clearly, explain your work).
- It does not have to be perfect! Just do your best to tell the judge about your project.
- Please also take clear photos of every item on your display board.
- The judges will watch your video on Friday March 11, then they will call you out of your classroom for 2-3 minutes to ask you questions about your project.
- Groups may record their video together or separately. Students working in a group will be meeting with the judge separately for the short question and answer session (unless they are in the same classroom). Each student working in a group should have their video on their own iPad.
- Don't forget to bring your iPad to school with you on Friday March 11!
